Since the beginning, volunteer firefighters have played a key role in the success of the Monroe Fire Department.
Members of the Monroe Volunteer Firefighters Association are the embodiment of the Departments slogan " Pride in Community, Excellence in Service".  Members actively participate in the Fire Department for a variety of reasons.  Some people have a personal goal of using the Volunteers Association as an entry-level springboard to a career in the fire service.  Many of the members participate because they see the need within the community and use this as their niche to provide a valuable service to the community where they live.  Everyone who participates shares one common goal of constantly striving to provide the highest level of Fire Protection, Emergency Medical Services and Public Education.
Every person who joins the volunteer ranks must successfully complete an 8-week Recruit Academy.

The spouses and families of all Fire Department members are very special people. They understand when members leave in the middle of dinner or get up in the middle of the night to answer a call.  Without the support of their families, it would be impossible for the members of the Fire Department to perform their duties.

The Volunteers & Union support the Northwest Burn Foundation with a boot drive every October to raise money for the foundation.  Several members also donate their time as counselors at the Burn Foundation's summer camp for burn survivors ages 7-17.

There is no requirement of any citizen to participate in community service. People who do participate are compelled to do so for different reasons and find many different avenues for contributing to their community.
