IF THERE IS A FIRE

Get out and stay out!
Leave the building immediately and don't go back in until the fire is out.
THINGS TO DO:

Make a list of safety rules for cooking and hang it up in your kitchen.
Walk around your home with a grownup, looking for matches and lighters.  Then ask an adult to put them away, where children can't find them.
Walk around your home with a grownup and clean up anything that might burn from around heaters or fireplaces.
Talk about home fire safety with the adults in your home.
Make a plan about what to do if there is a fire.
Draw a floor plan of your home showing all the ways that you can escape from each room if there is a fire.
Decide on a place outside your home where everyone can meet after they escape from a fire.
Have an adult show you all the smoke detectors in your home and test them to make sure they work.  Now you know what a smoke detector alarm sounds like.
